"Rad keyblade auction also benefits Child's Play" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-10-13 05:37:32

We love helping sick kids as much as the next staff of surly bloggers but even our moral compass is being tested by for an incredible Keyblade replica. We'd like to say the best part is that [Update: In their FAQ the seller says 100%] of the funds raised are going to. But alas we're pretty sure that the best part is the above video from the listing that features one of our favorite things: Cosplayers who've just lost the game of Chicken they've been playing with e-infamy and insanity and have ended up splattered all over the internet. Happy holidays kids. Of all the images the video we're especially terrified of Pikachu holding a sword. Because you see even if you're properly grounded and insulated against electricity -- he's For the record. 100% of the proceeds are going to Child's Play (according to the auction's questions). That's pretty cool as it will probably fetch a lot of money. Too bad it's not crafted from metal. That would be intense. I just want to point out something infuriating about Child's Play. It really has nothing to do with the charity which is great but with the hospitals. And I can only speak from experience from one hospital in particular. Children's Medical City in Dallas. They receive donations via Child's Play but then if you are a patient there and play the games it gets added to your bill as a charge. The family I know that this happened to was very low income and had five children the youngest has sever medical problems and when he was in the hospital for an extended time and his brothers and sisters wanted to play games to stay occupied and help the parents they got charged for all video game use on donated machines!I find this fairly outrageous and more hospitals should be called out on charging for donated goods. Man I knew the American health care system was messed up but thatsjust sick. Seriously how does private health care make sense toanyone its just so inhumane. Private health care in my mind is aboutas low as payday loans serves only those who have. You should send a letter to your local paper about that practice orif you don't think they will listen maybe you should bring it up withchild's play. They may see fit to donate the equipment to moredeserving hospitals. Then you'll be shocked when you hear Europe and Canada are seriously considering cutting "universal" healthcare. It sounds greedy that the hospital is using donated goods and charging for them. Send an email to the Child's Play guys and the hospital on this conduct. Suggest that if they don't stop they won't receive any more donations. Wow then public healthcare must be about as low as helping the poor which is what economists have found payday loans to do based on many studies. By giving people with low incomes access to money in emergencies they are better able to keep their jobs in the face of unexpected crises. Many people called out against them as taking advantage of the poor yet in cases when they were eliminated unemployment increased as people would choose to "give up" in the face of a crisis unable to continue their job commitment. Perhaps the intentions of the loaners might not be completely roses but the outcome benefits everyone. Maybe knee-jerk reactions aren't the best ones? But nobody cares about economists anyway... By the way the same goes for public health care. It seems good until you realize that the quality of care goes down as doctors no longer have incentive to be the best as it were. Public health care means people can't pay more to see the best doctors and thus most won't strive to be the best and earn the most money. Everything gets brought down to the same level everything slow down nobody gets better. European health care looks great from the outside but I'll bet you plenty of people are complaining about how LONG it takes to get anything done. And I thought the increase of outpatient care (in response to fuller hospitals) was bad. Just need to do a follow up here. I contacted Child's Play about this and they were really quick and helpful to respond btw. In any case it was my error and the hospital in question was Fort Worth Children's Medical Center and not Dallas Children's Medical. Ft. Worth is not part of the Child's Play program and therefore has absolutely nothing to do with the robbery going on at Ft. Worth. The Ft. Worth Medical Center is also using donated video game systems and games but have no problem charging their patients for items that are already paid for. So if you ever have sick kids in this area you might want to go to Dallas Children's instead of Ft. Worth Children's (though both are really nice facilities). Again. I want to apologize to Child's Play and Dallas Medical for any damaged I might have caused for my mis information. This will teach me to get all facts straight before I post on a blog.

"It is NOT Always the Child's Fault" posted by ~Ray

I am all for personal responsibility and definitely for children learning how their own behavior choices play out in natural consequences. After all we do undergo to prepare our children to live in the real world with real populate and real institutions. But. I wrote the yesterday about how our children's behavior can be different depending on where they are and what they are dealing with and sometimes there are other elements at play that the child just cannot control. Sponsors (bind continues below) Membership allows you to post in our forums change our tags and let your opinion be heard about any article on the place. In addition numerous rewards are offered for those who participate in making the community better. What are you waiting for? Yes. I accept that our children do need to learn how to cope and broach with all sorts of situations and all sorts of people but depending on the age and the developmental abilities of the child we might be expecting more than is allot. Sometimes as parents we be to step in and advise and decide if another entity-a child parent teacher administrator coach institution etc is really the create of the problem or at the root of the child's behavior issues and unless we tackle that elephant we cannot really get down to the bottom of what is going on. At the same token it does not do any good to constantly be blaming outside forces or other individuals for problems and issues and not holding our children responsible for their own behaviors and personal choices. As parents however we be to strike a fit and figure out what is really going on for our children in order to help them both hit the books to act and learn how to discern when it is their problem or someone else's (as well as how to address it when it IS someone else's problem.) Sometimes it is not about making our children change their actions but changing their environment influences or circumstance that make a big difference on our children's behavior. "Preparing for Your Child's Endoscopy" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-16 00:39:55

Tomorrow (Wednesday) my 5-year-old son will undergo an which is an exploratory procedure that allows his adulterate to look more closely at his esophagus. Our doctor is particularly interested in whether our son has a chronic condition causing inflammation of the esophagus. In individuals with symptoms consistent with eosinophilic esophagitis an upper endoscopy with biopsies is needed for the diagnosis. My husband and I are trying to do everything in our power to alter it the best experience we can for our son and make the information gained as meaningful as possible for us. For example we called and talked to our son's doctor last week to get more detailed information about the procedure and how it might affect him. We asked his adulterate when we should express him that he will be having the procedure. Our doctor recommended not surprising him with it the day of but rather to mention it matter-of-factly a day or two before the procedure. We also asked our adulterate which parts of the procedure would be most uncomfortable for our son and what we could do to alter it better. He said the IV will be the most uncomfortable. So we planned to go to the hospital half an hour early so the nurse would have measure to apply a numbing beat on his arm before inserting the IV which should change magnitude the discomfort. We also spoke with an adult friend of ours who recently had an upper endoscopy with biopsies. We asked her how she felt after the procedure. She said she did have some abdominal soreness for a day or two. We asked her what she remembered of the procedure and she assured us that as soon as they were change state to beginning the procedure they "pushed" medication into her IV and she didn't feel a thing during the procedure. She told us that although she was sleepy afterwards she felt well enough to go shopping later that same day. We also talked to another friend who is more familiar with eosinophilic esophagitis than we are. She recommended a great website. From this website we were able to get a exceed idea of what the doctor will be looking for in our son. We are by no means looking forward to our son undergoing this procedure but feel that we undergo done everything we can as parents to make it as good for all as possible. That is where we can find peace before the procedure. By using this service you accept our Terms of Use.. "Daring to be different" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-20 18:40:25

by Andrea J. Buchanan and Miriam Peskowitz. I figured that as a father of a young girl. I needed all the help I could get. So I signed up for the book tour. After being accepted. I was told that out of the 100+ bloggers reviewing this schedule. I am the only male. No pressure. is a big blue book that when opened reminds me of an old school textbook or even an old Boy Scouts Manual. The book jumps around from the rules of basketball (and to be frank it appears the authors are not too familiar with the game of basketball) to how to tie knots do cartwheels or how to make your very own “cootie catcher.” The book lacks real move as it is filled with chapter after chapter of tips and information that showcase things that would be associated with being typically “girl” (such as how to make friendship bracelets) along with other areas that one might not typically cerebrate with girls (such as the rules for the game of Darts). And maybe that’s the inform. After all these girls are supposed to be daring and daring girls don’t do typical girly stuff. Surprisingly (at least to me representing the male perspective) this book is pretty fascinating to read. There are great little stories about great women in history scattered throughout the book. Many of the chapters carry you approve to your childhood such as being reminded of jump rope rhymes or how to make daisy chains and ivy crowns. Each chapter brings a new experience and a fun activity and really reminds one what being a young girl is and can be. As a father trying to find ways to stay connected to his little girl. I found enough of what I was looking for to alter this book a real resource. I can envision practicing Back Walk-Overs putting her hair up with a draw or adorning our heads with the aforementioned daisy chains and that is going to be awesome. But even better is that this book redefines what a girl is and can be. The schedule itself isn’t pink it’s blue - challenging the notion that girls have to feature go and wear pinafores. Instead this book challenges girls to hone their science skills through creating a lemon-powered clock playing with vinegar and baking soda and studying the periodic table of elements. It also makes alter that learning to change a tire negotiating a salary and even whistling with two fingers is not just for boys anymore. The book is definitely targeted to school-aged girls and not for my little toddler. But that only means I’ve got a.
